How an RCNJ Story Became a Letter to the Editor in Rensselaer Magazine

Dave Aiello wrote, "The March 2001 edition of the print version of Rensselaer Magazine contains a letter to the editor that is signed by me. The letter points out the Campus Tour Web Site and says that I feel it is '...possibly the most user friendly Web Site that has ever been built at RPI.'"

"Some of you who are particularly careful readers of RCNJ.org may recognize those words, because they appear in an article on our Web Site that was posted in February. Read on for an explanation of how the text of this RCNJ article was republished by the alumni magazine."

A New Year Assessment of the RCNJ Web Site

Dave Aiello wrote, "I think it's natural for everyone to reassess what they do at the beginning of a new year and ask themselves what they can do to improve. I am no exception, and I extend my scrutiny to the Web Sites I help to operate, like rcnj.org."

"I am seeking ways to improve this site, from a user experience standpoint. So in this article, I will share some feedback that I have gotten from members of our club, and discuss the creation of the newest section of the RCNJ Web Site: Alumni News."

Satellite Hockey Reminder and Spring Event Calendar

Dear Friends and Fellow Alumni:

"The Year 2000 started off right for the RCNJ. RPI beat Princeton 6-2 in
Men’s Ice Hockey
on January 28. How can we top that?

Announcing the most varied event calendar we've ever had for one
academic semester. If you can't find an event that you would like to
attend this Spring, there may not be any hope for you. We have a 'sit
down' dinner, two sports / outdoor activities, and an admissions related
event where we honor the best math and science students from North
Jersey and New York City."

The Only Y2K Problem I Saw Was That It Took Away My Free Time

Dear Fellow Alumni and Friends:

"For about 30 years, my family has tried many ways to keep me quiet. I
finally figured out one way to do it that is guaranteed to work:"

Schedule software and hardware upgrades as big as the ones we did for Y2K every year.
"If you don’t know this already, I am the president of a small Internet company that I started in my parents’ basement 10 years ago. This is how the RCNJ got its own Web Site."

"For almost every waking moment in the last three months, I have been working on hardware and software upgrades at my office in Denville, the place where our Internet servers are located in Seattle, or at one of our clients’ offices in the New York metropolitan area. I still can’t believe that all the machines are upgraded and working properly, but that seems to be the case. Hopefully, I’m not jinxing myself."
